Summertime

Well, it's the middle of the summer. The late spring and early summer have been unusual here on the San Diego coast. The weather has been generally fantastic. Typically we have the May Grey and the June Gloom as clouds (the "marine layer") hang along the coastal beaches until mid-summer. But this year the ocean water has been warmer resulting in blue skies and warmer temperatures with slightly higher humidity.

It's been lazy for me since the 1st of June with not much planned after several trips in late spring. I went to the usual Cancer Camp 2 weeks ago...this one for the siblings of the cancer patients. I volunteered for a week as a counselor for the 14-16 year olds. It was held up in the local mountains near Julian at about 4000ft altitude at a methodist camp. It was hot and a bit humid with thundershowers on 2 days. It was very tiring for me, traipsing up and down the hills, herding teenagers, strange bed, no TV. It took a few days to recover when I returned home. After 23 years of volunteering for these cancer camps, I think I have figured out that I am too old for this. So this probably was my last.
I think I will go to Montreal for 5 days next month instead of volunteer for the week of Camp with the actual cancer patients. Why not? I've never been there before.

I started a part-time job last week. I am babysitting at a MRI Center 2 days a week for $60/hr.
The state law requires an MD to be present on site when a contrast media is injected in case of an allergic reaction. So my friend who runs a conglomerate of 7 centers around the county asked me to help. It keeps me occupied and I earn extra cash for a few trips. We'll see how it goes.
